I was at one of our local nature reserves yesterday and watched a couple of geese with their goslings heading onto the lake, they were enjoying the freedom of a family swim when all of a sudden a male swan flew in and proceeded to chase the geese to scare them of "his lake".
The male goose was fierce in his response and continued to fight with the swan with some assistance from the female before he moved away encouraging the swan to follow so allowing the female goose to get the gosling away to safety.
It was a fierce confrontation that lasted for about 5 min before the swan moved away and the adult geese were once again reunited and all the goslings were safe.
